Kendamil Stage 1 vs Stage 2 vs Stage 3
By Kendamil Ghana · Updated · 5 min read
Kendamil comes in three stages that follow your baby's age. Stage 1 (First Infant Milk) is for 0 to 6 months, Stage 2 (Follow-On Milk) is for 6 to 12 months and Stage 3 (Toddler Milk) is for 12 to 36 months. Each stage is adjusted for what babies of that age need.

Stage 1: First Infant Milk (0–6 months)
Stage 1 is designed to give a baby all the nutrition they need from birth, with no other food. It is the formula used if breast milk is not available or is being supplemented. Many health professionals say Stage 1 can be used for the whole first year.
Stage 1 vs Stage 2: what changes at 6 months?
Both stages are free from palm oil, soy oil and fish oil, and they taste much the same. The main difference is iron. Babies' natural iron stores run low at around 6 months, so Stage 2 contains a little more.
Parents usually move to Stage 2 when their baby is about 6 months old and starting solid food. Stage 2 is meant to go alongside a weaning diet, not replace it. Some health professionals advise staying on Stage 1 until 12 months, so ask yours before switching.
Stage 2 vs Stage 3: what changes at 12 months?
By their first birthday most children eat a range of family foods, and milk becomes one part of their diet. Stage 3 Toddler Milk has more protein and more iron than Stage 2, along with whole milk fats, plant-based DHA and added vitamins.
Stage 3 is optional. Many parents move from Stage 2 straight to whole cow's milk at 12 months, and others keep using Stage 3 because they prefer a formula with added vitamins and minerals. Cow's milk should not be given as a main drink before 12 months.
How to switch stages
- Check with your health visitor or doctor first.
- Stay in the same range (Classic, Organic or Goat) if your baby is happy with it, so the taste stays familiar.
- Follow the scoop and water amounts on the new tin. Read how to prepare Kendamil formula.
